Summer Trip – Botanic Gardens

The community council takes a break from meetings for July and August, returning the first Wednesday in September.

Every July we hold a summer social evening with a trip to a nearby historical site. This year we were lucky to get a guided tour of the Botanic Gardens on a beautiful sunny evening. We were treated to a very interesting talk on the history of the Gardens with its restored glasshouses originally designed by Richard Turner in the 1800s.

Afterward we returned to the Visitors’ Centre at Ashtown Castle for some food and drink. Our thanks as always to John McCullen, ex-Superintendent of the Phoenix  Park, for arranging the trip with the OPW, to Pauline, our extremely knowledgeable guide at the Botanic Gardens, and to Helen at the Visitors’ Centre café for providing the delicious food. We hope everyone enjoyed the evening and we look forward to seeing you all in September.

Navan Road Community Council

Navan Road Community Council was set up in 1968 to help bring together community groups and sporting groups, so that they would have one voice when trying to get things done in the community. These days the NRCC lobbies Dublin City Council and local representatives in relation to issues such as traffic, planning and policing to name a few.
