New trees for the Park – Many larger older trees have had to be felled due to danger and disease such as Ganoderma and Kretzschmaria Deusta which can cause crown or trunk collapse. In commemoration of 1916 a new avenue of 185 Plane Trees is being planted along Furze Road (across main Avenue from Visitor Centre). Think about planting a tree, suitable to smaller gardens, for next generation to enjoy. www.phoenixpark.ie

General Election Day – check your polling cards!

Our last blog post concerned the change in constituency for much of the Navan Road area. This Friday we go to the polls and this is a reminder to check your polling card for your correct polling station. Those residents living in Dublin West will vote in the school hall of John Bosco’s NS on the Navan Road. Some residents living on the city side of Nephin Road and Skreen Road are still in Dublin Central and should vote in St Joseph’s School for the Deaf. If you have not received a polling card yet but are entitled to vote then you can still turn up with identification.

A Change in Constituency

REMEMBER; For the next General Election, Navan Road and Blackhorse Avenue, from Skreen Road out to Ashtown, plus all areas west of Skreen Road, Nephin Road are now in Dublin West constituency. This side Skreen Road is the dividing line, i.e. City side Skreen Road remains Dublin Central, and Bl. Avenue from junction with Skreen Road up to Ashtown is Dublin West . see http://www.constituency-commission.ie/cc/docs/Map%20C%20Dublin.pdf

NOTE; The new Live Register comes into force on Monday 15th February and will be used for every election and/or Referendum held for the following 12 months. You can inspect it at Libraries, Post Offices and Garda Stations and use http://www.checktheregister.ie/ to be sure you are registered. If not, you can still register to vote by applying through the Supplementary Register. Forms are available from Library, Post Office and Garda Station.
