Phoenix Park Road Closures

 

On Sunday 30th September 2018 the Pigsback Run for the Marie Keating Foundation will take place in the Phoenix Park.  Road closures will operate from 7am until 12.30pm.

The Simon Home Run will take place in the Park on Saturday 6th October 2018 and there will be road closures from 8am to 1pm.  Full details should be on the phoenixpark.ie website closer to the event.

 

 

Temporary Local Road Closures

There will be an emergency, temporary road closure of Nephin Road from Navan Road to Blackhorse Avenue on Saturday 22nd September, 2018 from 07.00hrs to 21.00hrs. Pedestrian and local access will be maintained during the period of the closure.  This is to facilitate the positioning of a mobile, tower crane on the date in question.

To facilitate hedge and tree trimming the River Road will be closed from Ashtown Road to Ratoath Road on Saturday 6th October 2018 and Sunday 7th October 2018 from 06.00hrs to 14.00hrs each day. Pedestrian and local access will be maintained.

Any person may lodge an objection in writing regarding the River Road proposed closure to Dublin City Council, Environment & Transportation Department, Block 2, Floor 6, Civic Offices, Wood Quay, Dublin 8 or you may email your objection to roadworks.control@dublincity.ie  Closing date 12.00 (midday) Monday 17th September 2018.

Bus Connects Information Meetings

 

“The Dublin Area Bus Network Redesign public consultation is currently under way and will continue until September 28th 2018. We invite people to have their say on the proposed network redesign via an online survey” (Bus Connects)

We have just found out that there is an information meeting being held on Wednesday 5th September at Tesco Cabra Cross.  There is also a meeting in the Town Centre (see below).

Thursday 6th September      Blanchardstown Shopping Centre.    2pm to 8pm

We would hope that as many residents as possible would attend the information meeting to see how the new bus service would effect them and to put in a submission if desired.

Road Restrictions due to Papal Mass

The Phoenix Park will close completely this evening Friday 24th August 2018 at 7.00pm.

It will not reopen until Tuesday 28th August 2018 at 7am.

This will result in extra traffic on the Navan Road (when the road is open).

The Navan Road from Cabra Cross to the M50, The River Road and Blackhorse Avenue will close at 6am on Sunday 26th and will not reopen until 11pm on Sunday night.  The roads may reopen earlier in the evening if the pedestrian traffic has cleared the area.

There will be no buses at all on the Navan Road on Sunday 26th August 2018.  The 37, 38, 39’s, 70 will operate to Laurel Lodge inbound and will then go to the City Centre via the M50 and Finglas.  The 122 will not operate into the area.

If you must leave and/or enter our area on Sunday you should contact Cabra Garda Station to see what arrangements might be possible.  You can also contact the Business & Community Liaison Team at Businessandcommunity.papal@opw.ie.

Papal Visit 25th & 26th August 2018

 

The Papal Mass on Sunday 26th August 2018 is going to mean severe traffic restrictions in the Navan Road and surrounding areas.  All homes in our area should have received a pack in the post detailing all the road closures and Phoenix Park restrictions by now.

The Business & Community Liaison Team will be holding a meeting for residents and businesses in the Navan Road/Cabra/Stoneybatter/NCR areas.

The meeting will take place on Monday 20th August 2018 at 7pm in The Holy Family Parish Centre, 13, Prussia Street, Stoneybatter, Dublin 7. The Centre is past Tesco heading into town and is served by the 37, 39, 39a, 70 bus routes and the 46A is a short walk away.

There will be a representative from the World Meeting of Families, An Garda Siochana Traffic Division, The National Transport Authority and Dublin City Council attending.

Navan Road Community Council are urging people to attend the meeting and in particular anyone who has to leave our area and return during the road closures which are taking place from 6.00am to 11.59pm on the Sunday.  You can register to attend by email at businessandcommunity.papal@opw.ie

 

Centenary of the sinking of the R.M.S. Leinster

 

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the R.M.S Leinster, on the 10th of October 1918, a month before the end of the war. The Leinster was travelling from Kingstown (now Dun Laoghaire) to Holyhead in Wales when she was torpedoed approximately 16 miles off the Irish coast.  (further information at rmsleinster.com)

The Visitor’s Centre in the Phoenix Park will be holding an exhibition for the month of October to commemorate this historic event.

There will also be commemorations in Dun Laoghaire and Grangegorman Military Cemetery.

There is a general tour of Grangegorman Military Cemetery (Blackhorse Avenue) every Thursday at 11am from April to November.

New Bus & Cycle Services for Dublin

 

The National Transport Authority have put out for Public Consultation proposals for a Dublin Area Bus Network Redesign.

Some of the headlines are: –

A network of continuous bus lanes and safe cycling facilities along 16 routes.

A review of the current bus service network to ensure that it can meet the increasing transport needs of the Dublin region.

Developing a state of the art ticketing system and making payment much more convenient.

Implementing a new bus branding to integrate bus vehicles of different operators and types, and providing a modern look and feel to the new bus system.

Rolling out new bus stops with better signage and information and increasing the provision of additional bus shelters.

Transitioning to a new bus fleet using low-emission vehicle technologies.

A network of park and ride facilities will be developed, located at key locations along the national road network.

Creation of a ‘next generation’ network of cycling facilities.

29th September 1979 – Preparations for the Papal Visit to the Phoenix Park

 

This is a new exhibition opening to the public in the Visitor’s Centre. It features the lead up to the Papal Mass in the Phoenix Park in 1979

The exhibition will open on Thursday 2nd August 2018 and run until Sunday 30th September 2018.  It will be open from 1000hrs to 1700hrs each day. More information on http://www.phoenix park.ie
